Sedgwick County Jail inmate released by mistake has been found, arrested

Updated 6:55 p.m. Nov. 2, 2021: The Sedgwick County Jail inmate who was released by mistake on Monday has been found and arrested.

Jamarcius Quayshaun Fisher, 30, was arrested by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Section late Tuesday afternoon, the office said, following a public plea for help finding him.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Benjamin Blick said Fisher’s “improper release” happened after someone mistakenly applied a “time served” label to his pending criminal case when it only applied to a traffic case for which he had also been serving time in jail.

Original story, 5:05 p.m. Nov. 2, 2021: The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says the jail let an inmate out by mistake on Monday — and it now needs the public’s help tracking him down.

Sedgwick County Jail administrators were told about the “improper release” of 30-year-old Jamarcius Quayshaun Fisher on Tuesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. He was being held as a pre-trial detainee in an aggravated burglary, domestic battery and criminal damage to property case.

Authorities have since issued a warrant for his arrest. He was released around 9 a.m. Monday and last lived in the Wichita area, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

The Sheriff’s Office did not say exactly how Fisher’s “improper release” occurred in the news release, and an agency spokesman did not immediately respond to questions Tuesday afternoon asking how it happened.

Fisher is 5-foot-7, weighs around 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
