Mother turns in youths suspected of breaking into store

Mom wouldn’t let them get away with it.

Six juveniles were arrested Wednesday morning following a break-in at a Dollar General store, Lt. James Espinoza said. Officers responded to an alarm shortly before 3:30 a.m. at the store at 1918 E. 13th St. That’s east of I-135 and west of Grove.

The officers found that someone had used a cinder block to shatter a plate-glass window in the store, Espinoza said. About $325 worth of food – including bags of potato chips, pizzas and candy – was taken from the store.

A short time later, a 14-year-old boy showed up at a hospital with lacerations to his hands and arms, Espinoza said. His mother brought him to the hospital – and told police he was one of a group that broke into the Dollar General.

She then gave the names of the other participants and where police could find them. Officers went to a house in the 1500 block of North Green and found the other five juveniles – and at least some of the stolen merchandise.

Arrested were two 14-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy, two 13-year-old girls and a 12-year-old girl. They were all booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center, Espinoza said.
