Antwon Banks sentenced in death of radio station employee
Antwon Banks, who was convicted of killing an ex-girlfriend’s co-worker last year, was sentenced to 25 years to life Thursday in Sedgwick County District Court.
Banks, 32, was convicted in April of killing 25-year-old Daniel Flores on the night of Feb. 9, 2014. Flores, a computer and audio equipment operator, was found dead in the basement of Steckline Communications, 1632 S. Maize Rd., hours after he was fatally beaten on the head and face with a fire extinguisher.
Prosecutors at trial alleged Banks killed Flores in a fit of rage after he came across Banks scrawling hate-filled messages about Banks’ former girlfriend, a Steckline office manager, on hallway walls. Banks, prosecutors said, was upset over their recent breakup and wanted to humiliate his ex-girlfriend in front of co-workers.
Jurors took less than four hours to convict Banks of first-degree murder. Banks was sentenced by District Court Judge Bruce Brown. He will be eligible for parole in 25 years.
