Arrest made in drive-by shooting
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting earlier this week that sent a man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Marquis Leeks was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4700 block of East Lewis, a little more than six hours after the shooting was reported in the 2000 block of North Kansas, police records show.
Police were able to identify the suspected shooter after interviewing the 33-year-old shooting victim following surgery, Lt. James Espinoza said.
The victim is not a documented gang member, but investigators said they think the shooting is gang-related. The victim and suspect were involved in a clash Tuesday over a woman, Espinoza said.
The victim’s 32-year-old girlfriend was in the house when it was hit by several bullets shortly before 6 a.m. on the corner of 19th and Kansas. That’s just south of 21st North and just east of I-135.
A bullet penetrated the wall and struck the victim. The woman was not injured.
