Marijuana trafficking in Wichita lands two men in prison

Two men were sentenced Monday to federal prison after pleading guilty to trafficking marijuana.

Jason Giesy, 31, of Augusta, was sentenced to more than seven years after pleading guilty to trafficking 220 pounds of marijuana, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a news release.

Evan Woolsey, 28, of Wichita, drew a six-year sentence after pleading guilty to possession with intent to sell marijuana, unlawful possession of a firearm and helping in drug trafficking crime, the release said.

In an investigation that began in January 2012, police seized about 1,000 pounds of marijuana from a residence in Rose Hill in August 2013. He moved to Augusta during the investigation.

Marijuana and guns were found at Woolsey’s residence in June 2013.

There are two other co-defendants from Wichita in the case. Amanda Harris Renteria, 30, has been sentenced to three years probation. Jeremy Harris, 33, is set for trial Nov. 4.
