Dollar General clerk unhurt in attempt to thwart robber
A 31-year-old female clerk was not hurt after she tried to stop a man from taking cash out of her register late Friday afternoon in south Wichita.
Wichita police Sgt. Roger Runft said the robbery happened at 4:45 p.m. on Friday at the Dollar General store, 1919 E. Pawnee, near I-135.
Runft said the man came up to the counter with items for purchase. When the clerk rang up the items and the register drawer opened, “he lunged over the counter and tried to grab the money from the cash drawer,” Runft said.
The clerk tried to block the man from reaching the drawer but he pushed her hands away, Runft said.
He said the clerk was not injured.
The man fled on foot with a “small amount of cash,” Runft said.
Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man.
