Woman shot in leg during large disturbance in north Wichita, police say
A woman estimated to be in her mid-20s was seriously injured after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in north Wichita, according to Wichita police Sgt. Ed Brower.
“Apparently there was some sort of disturbance, large disturbance going on and somebody produced some sort of firearm and fired into that group,” he said. “A victim did suffer a gunshot wound to the leg. It’s serious but I think non-life-threatening injury.”
A disturbance involving 15-20 people outside of a home in 2700 block of North Spruce was reported to police just after 1 p.m., he said. An arriving officer, who was waiting for backup, heard 6-10 shots and saw several vehicles leaving the area, he said.
Arriving officers provided aid until EMS took the woman to an area hospital. About half of the people had left by the time officers arrived, he said.
