Suspect identified in assault of youth football league coach in Linwood Park
Wichita police have released the name and photograph of the man they say used brass knuckles in an attack on a youth league football coach during a practice last month.
Bobby B. Brown, 31, was one of a group of people who attacked the coach at Linwood Park on Sept. 8, Lt. James Espinoza said.
The Wichita Tigers, who are part of the Greater Wichita Junior Football League, were practicing when the mother of a former player confronted the coach over her son not being allowed to play for a rival team in the season opener the previous Saturday, officials have said.
The woman left after an argument with the coach and police were called. The officers left after talking to witnesses and making a report. A group of men showed up at the park about 20 minutes later and asked who the coach was that had talked with the woman.
They confronted the coach, police have said, and one of them lifted his shirt to display a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants. Others then began to beat the coach, and Brown is believed to have used brass knuckles in the attack.
The coach’s wife, who was in the spectator seats at the time, pulled a gun from her purse and fired one shot into the air to halt the attack, police have said. The coach then went to his car and returned with a second gun, pointing it at various people in the crowd.
The men who attacked the coach left before officers arrived a second time. Officers have been looking for Brown for weeks without success, Espinoza said, and investigators hope help from the public will lead to his capture. A felony warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Anyone with information about where he is can call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
