Police: Two crimes near Wesley Medical Center may be connected

Police are looking to see if two assaults that happened about 20 minutes apart Wednesday night may be connected.

A 54-year-old man reported being attacked and held down by two suspects who went through his pockets but didn’t take anything at about 8 p.m. in the 3400 block of East Orchard, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. That’s north of Wesley Medical Center near Ninth and Hillside.

About 20 minutes later, a 66-year-old man was confronted by two armed men who demanded his wallet in the 3100 block of East Third Street. They took his wallet and left, Schroeder said. That incident occurred just southwest of Central and Hillside, less than a mile from the first confrontation.

In both cases, the victims said the suspects wore red hooded sweatshirts and masks. In both cases, the suspects were armed with a handgun.

“I think there’s a possibility” the crimes are connected, Schroeder said.
