Man killed in early morning shooting, Wichita police say
A 42-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning west of downtown, according to Wichita police.
The shooting was reported at 3:18 a.m. in the 500 block of North Edwards, near Central and Meridian, emergency dispatch said. Police found the man unresponsive in a white SUV with a gunshot wound in his upper body, Officer Kevin Wheeler said in a news release.
“Fire and EMS arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the male died on the scene,” Wheeler said.
He was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. Officers at the scene also spoke with a woman who is an acquaintance of the man, police said.
The killing is not random, Wheeler said.
This appears to be the 39th criminal homicide of the year; it took until December to have 39 total homicides in 2019.
