Wichita man arrested on suspicion of murder after Tuesday morning shooting

A Wichita man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder Tuesday at Wesley Medical Center, police said.

The arrest of Terry Quonteze Wallace, 21, is connected to a 8:46 a.m. Tuesday shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man, records show. The shooting was reported in the 1100 block of North Ash, near 10th and Grove.

The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 9:09 a.m., according to police records.

Wallace had taken two 18-year-old men with gunshot wounds to the hospital before being arrested, Officer Charley Davidson said. The men are in stable condition.

Capt. Jason Stephens said the men agreed to meet on North Ash when an argument started and gunfire was exchanged.

“We are still conducting an ongoing investigation into any involvement that any other victims or suspects in that case may have had,” Stephens said. “Some of the individuals were gang members, but as far as motive ... it is hard to say at this time.”

The killing was the 38th criminal homicide of the year, Davidson said. Wichita had 35 in 2019.

Davidson said police are checking to see if there’s a connection between the killing and two fatal shootings over the weekend as well as a shooting that happened Tuesday night in the 800 block of North Spruce that left a woman wounded.

The shooting on Spruce was a half-mile from the fatal shooting earlier in the day. Davidson said shots were fired from an SUV that hit the woman outside of the home.
