Police ID victims of deadly shootings, ask for tips after ‘lack of all cooperation’
Wichita police say a lack of cooperation from witnesses has hampered their investigation into two deadly shootings over the weekend.
Christian Waters, 22, of Wichita, died after he was shot Saturday morning when a fight broke out at a home in the 1300 block of North Volutsia. Police said by email that the shooter fired several rounds at Waters, who died at a Wichita hospital where he was taken for treatment. Several people were at the house for an unspecified gathering when the argument started around 4:15 a.m.
On Sunday night, 17-year-old Valincio Hill of Wichita was fatally wounded in another shooting that also injured a 41-year-old woman. Police say officers found the pair at a home in the 1600 block of South Water when they responded to an emergency call about gunfire there at 8:35 p.m. Both were hospitalized, but Hill died from his injuries. Police on Monday described the woman’s condition as stable.
Police said several people were at the house on South Water when “unknown suspects approached ... on foot and fired multiple shots from the street.” Property at the address was also hit.
The victims of both shootings were targeted but “a lack of all cooperation” from those involved has kept investigators from learning exactly what happened in either case, police said in the email.
No one had been arrested as of Monday morning, police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said.
The department is asking anyone with information about either shooting to submit tips to Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407 or anonymously to the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
Crime Stoppers tipsters, which may be eligible for a cash reward, can also send information through the P3 mobile app or www.wichitasedgwickcountycrimestoppers.com.
The killings are the 36th and 37th criminal homicides in the city so far this year. There have been 41 homicides overall, including two classified by the department as accidental and two that police consider justified.
