Wichita man arrested in California, extradited to KS on murder charge, officials say

A 21-year-old Wichita man was arrested in San Francisco last month and sent back to Kansas this week in connection to a December 2019 killing at Southwestern College, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Deuntae M. Markham was booked into Cowley County Jail and has been charged with second-degree murder in the unintentional but reckless killing of Gabriel Luna, 32. Luna was shot in his campus apartment in Winfield on Dec. 18, 2019, according to a KBI news release. Luna died from his injuries two days later at a Wichita hospital, the release says.

The Winfield Police Department asked the KBI to assist in the investigation on Dec. 31, 2019.
