Second man shot on Thursday over illegal narcotics has died, Wichita police say
Wichita police said Saturday that a second man injured in a shooting at a west side hotel has died.
Keion Whyte, 23, of Wichita, died Saturday, according to a news release. He was shot early Thursday morning along with 40-year-old William Pottorff at the Scotsman Inn West, 5922 W. Kellogg.
Pottorff, also of Wichita, died at the scene.
Police previously said Pottorff was at the hotel on Thursday visiting a woman who had been living there for about a month. While he was there, five people including Whyte forced their way in about 12:45 a.m. and Pottorff and Whyte both pulled handguns. The men were injured in the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
Police have said the break-in and shooting are tied to illegal narcotics. Whyte suffered several gunshot wounds and died at the hospital.
“This was not a random incident,” Officer Charley Davidson wrote in the release.
Four people have been jailed on suspicion of felony first-degree murder and aggravated burglary in the case but had not been formally charged as of Saturday. Wichita residents Braxton Cooley, 23; Akakia Farbes, 23; and Koby Fisher, 23; and 43-year-old Eugene Donnald of O’Fallon, Illinois, remain in the custody of the Sedgwick County Jail. Their bonds range from $250,000 to $300,000.
