Clearwater company among Kansas roofers fined for law violations, AG says

A Clearwater company is among 10 Kansas roofing businesses fined by the Kansas Attorney’s General Office over the past year for violating a state law meant to protect customers.

In each case, Derek Schmidt’s office alleged the businesses or their subcontractors failed to follow the Kansas Roofing Registration Act, which requires companies to register with the attorney general’s office before they advertise, solicit or perform roofing services, according to a news release.

Weaver Construction Services, which is based in Clearwater, agreed in December to pay $3,000 in civil penalties to settle allegations that it didn’t follow registration requirements, according to a consent judgment filed in the case.

Other roofers fined between July 1, 2019, and June 30 are:

  • Overland Park-based KCRS, LLC, and KCRS Restoration Contractors LLC, which does business as Kansas City Roofing Service; $10,000 fine
  • Kansas City, Missouri-based Lionheart Contracting LLC; $2,500 fine
  • Concordia-based Garst Construction LLC; $3,750 fine
  • Kansas City, Kansas-based New Era Innovations LLC; $2,500 fine
  • Elkhorn, Nebraska-based Absolute Roofseal LLC; $2,500 fine
  • Carlos Marquez who does business as Marquez Construction; $15,000 fine
  • Jose L. Nunez-Vazquez who does business as Nunez Roofing; $15,000 fine
  • Hometown Roofing LLC, which has locations in Kansas and Missouri; $3,500 fine
  • Lincoln, Nebraska-based Winterstone LLC; $2,500 fine
