Wellington man called 911 and turned himself in after fatal shooting, police say
Wellington Police on Friday released the name of the suspected shooter and victim that were in separate vehicles during a mid-day shooting earlier in the week.
Walter Edward Taylor III, 21, of Wellington, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Travis A. Schneider, 34, also of Wellington. Police chief Tracy Heath said the shooting happened at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Taylor was arrested later that afternoon after he called 911 and turned himself in.
Taylor was in the passenger seat of a car traveling alongside a Ford Ranger being driven by Schneider. An “argument ensued” and Taylor fired one round that hit Schneider in the upper left chest, Heath said.
Schneider died at the scene.
Heath said they have recovered a handgun. He doesn’t know what the argument was over.
