Wichita man, 40, arrested in shooting over money and drugs, police say

A 40-year-old Wichita man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder in a July 1 shooting over drugs and money, the Wichita Police Department said.

Michael Adrian Howard was arrested without incident in the 900 block of North Main, near Murdock. Police first started investigating the shooting at around 9 p.m. on July 1. The shooting call was reported in the 1800 block of North Amidon after a 36-year-old man flagged down a motorist and reported being shot, Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.

He had been shot once in the abdomen and was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injury.

“The investigation revealed the victim and Howard are known to each other, were in the area of 1800 north Amidon, and got into an argument over money and drugs,” Davidson said. “During the argument, Howard pulled out a handgun and fired one shot that struck the victim.”

Howard’s previous convictions include aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and criminal possession of a weapon, Davidson said. Howard is currently on probation, records show.
