Former Goddard construction contractor will spend time in prison, according to DA

A former Goddard construction contractor was sentenced on Friday to nearly three years in prison after violating probation, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Jeffrey T. Vap, 55, was sentenced to 34 months in prison. He was originally put on probation after being convicted on seven counts of felony theft related to construction projects that “never started or were never finished.” The projects included improvements and remodeling at a church, restaurant and several residences between 2011 and 2016, according to a news release from the DA’s office.

Vap used to own Quality Construction and Remodeling, the release says.

Vap’s probation was “in part so that he could pay his former customers more than $50,000 in restitution.” As part of the probation, he was ordered to not work as an independent contractor.

“In March, Vap was found in violation of his probation for continuing to engage in business as a construction contractor,” the release says. “Vap asked Judge Eric Williams to reinstate his probation because he had paid all of his restitution and was now suffering health problems.”

Williams denied the request.
