13-year-old arrested after bomb threat at south Wichita business

A 13-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday after going to a south Wichita business and handing a note to an employee that demanded money and noted he had a bomb, the Wichita Police Department said.

An employee of the business, in the 1500 block of South Oliver, called 911 and officers who were nearby arrived at around 3:25 p.m. Upon seeing police the teen ran from the business and “struck a customer as he pushed open the door to leave,” officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.

Officers arrested him after a short chase on foot and he was taken to the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility, Davidson said.

No one was seriously hurt.
