No criminal charges for ex-jail deputy who lied about sexual assault in 2016
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said Tuesday that prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against a former jail deputy who lied about being sexual assaulted by a coworker in 2016.
The announcement came during a news conference where Easter discussed the arrest of a different jail deputy accused of kissing and fondling two inmates earlier this year.
Easter said the former jail deputy who made the false sexual assault report, LeAnn Bailey Blair Schlicher of Derby, would not face criminal charges in connection with an investigation prompted by her admission that she’d been dishonest. The truth about her nearly 4-year-old report came out during a June 23 interview with a background investigator looking into Schlicher after she applied for a job as a commissioned deputy.
Schlicher was fired and booked into jail on suspicion of interfering with law enforcement on June 25. She worked for the Sheriff’s Office for around five years.
“The DA chose yesterday to not charge that case,” Easter said Tuesday.
Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett confirmed that Schlicher wouldn’t be criminally charged, saying by email that he looked at the case “and, after reviewing the allegations, determined that criminal charges were not warranted. “
