Wichita police ask for tips to help solve shooting of 58-year-old man last week

Wichita police are seeking tips from the public to help solve the shooting of a 58-year-old man last week.

The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, Officer Paul Cruz said by email. Emergency medical services staff were dispatched to the 500 block of East Second Street and found him with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers were sent to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis to investigate at about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say their initial dive into the case didn’t yield enough information to lead them to the shooter.

“The initial investigation revealed an unknown suspect shot the victim,” Cruz said in an emailed news release.

“Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the shooting and are asking for the public’s help.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407 or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or to the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282. Crime Stoppers tips can also be submitted at www.wichitasedgwickcountycrimestoppers.com or using the P3 mobile app.
