Man shot after leaving bar near downtown Wichita, police said

A 32-year-old man was non-fatally shot after leaving a bar near downtown Wichita on Saturday morning, police said.

Police were called about a shooting around 2:30 a.m. near Lincoln and Broadway. Responding officers were told that a man had arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound, officer Kevin Wheeler said in a news release.

The man was leaving a bar in the 1000 block of South Broadway with a 33-year-old woman when he was shot once in the body. A 35-year-old man drove the two to the hospital where the victim was treated and released, Wheeler said in the release.

“Minutes before the shooting call, officers also responded to a suspicious character with shots fired at Topeka and Morris,” Wheeler said. “Officers learned that an unknown suspect was seen firing shots from a church parking lot.”

Wheeler said police are still working to determine if the calls were related.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call detectives at 316-268-4407, See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
