Six siblings, ages 10-16, taken into custody after burglary call, police say
Six siblings, ages 10-16, were taken into custody after police responded to a burglary call in south Wichita on Wednesday, according to police.
Police were called at around 3:15 p.m. about a 16-year-old boy breaking into an apartment and taking property in the 800 block of West 26th Street South, near Seneca. The teen was arrested nearby for trespassing, according to officer Charley Davidson.
When officers arrived, “five other juveniles began to interfere” by threatening officers, kicking and attempting to break windows on the patrol cars, Davidson said in an email.
“Additionally, one juvenile entered the home and grabbed a knife. Officers were able to have the juvenile drop the knife and take him into custody with no injuries,” Davidson said. “One officer was bit during the incident, not resulting in any injuries, and one patrol car received minor damage.”
Davidson said the siblings were taken to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center, where they received “services and were released back to a parent.”
“Additionally, the WPD Community Support Specialists will be working with the family to provide further help,” Davidson said.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of the story incorrectly said people were battered during the burglary.
