Two people killed in separate traffic accidents in Wichita

Wichita had its 10th and 11th fatal traffic accidents of the year, including its fourth with a motorcycle, after two deadly crashes Thursday night, Wichita police said.

The first happened at around 6:55 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Hillside, near 13th Street. A 57-year-old woman, Doris Johnson of Wichita, was headed north on Hillside when she lost control of her vehicle and hit a curb, utility pole and fence, officer Charley Davidson said.

The Wichita Fire Department removed Johnson, who was pinned, from the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, Davidson said.

Police responded to another wreck at around 9:10 p.m. at 53rd Street North and Porter.

An 81-year-old man driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country was headed east on 53rd and went to turn north onto Porter. Jason McKay, 42, of Wichita was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle west on 53rd, hit the minivan and was ejected. McKay was taken to the hospital and later died.

The 81-year-old was treated for minor injuries.
