Man shot through Wichita motel room window after refusing to answer door, cops say
Wichita police are asking for tips from the public to help solve a shooting at a south-side motel that sent a 51-year-old man to the hospital overnight.
Officer Charley Davidson said by email that the 51-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were inside of a room at the Frontier Motel, 1623 S. Broadway, when someone knocked on the door early Wednesday morning. The man refused to answer it, though, because he didn’t know for sure who was on the other side.
The pair were arguing through the door about the refusal when the person outside pulled a gun and “fired multiple times through a window, striking the victim,” Davidson wrote.
The shooter — described as a 5-foot-8, 240-pound Hispanic male wearing a blue T-shirt and shorts — then fled in a dark-colored SUV, police said.
Officers arrived at the motel at 1:20 a.m. and found the 51-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, Davidson’s email said.
