Woman arrested in fatal June killing near 13th and Edgemoor, records show

Update July 8:

Amber Kay Ahrens, 41, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon in connection to the June 17 killing of David Leddy, records shows.

She was also arrested on an unrelated drug charge.

Original June 17:

A 53-year-old Wichita man was killed in a shooting Wednesday morning, police said.

David Leddy was found in the front of a home in the 1200 block of North Pinecrest, near 13th and Edgemoor, with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene, officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. Police were called at 3:31 a.m. about a shooting and the caller said “his friend got shot in the head” in an argument outside, according to scanner traffic.

Leddy and a 19-year-old man had gotten into a fight at the home earlier in the day, Davidson said, adding that Leddy’s vehicle was damaged and the 19-year-old was battered.

The 19-year-old didn’t live at the home, Davidson said.

Later on, the 19-year-old went back to the home with his 41-year-old mother and “three friends”: two women, ages 31 and 44, and a 54-year-old man.

“A disturbance then ensued in front of the house, and shots were fired that struck Leddy,” Davidson said.

Police are looking for additional people involved in the case.
