Wichita man accused of killing popular DJ charged with involuntary manslaughter
Ray Anthony Watkins, the Wichita man accused of killing well-known radio DJ Don Hall in an early morning crash, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
Watkins was originally arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Watkins had his first appearance Friday afternoon, where Sedgwick County District Judge Seth Rundle set his bond at $50,000.
“The charging decision was based on the evidence presented by investigators at the time of the charging appointment,” District Attorney Marc Bennett said in an email, adding that the felony carries a sentence of between roughly 3 to 14 years.
At around 4:20 a.m. on April 29, first responders were called to an injury accident at Kellogg and Rock. Police said they believe Watkins, 43, ran a red light while he was headed south on Rock and collided with Hall, who was headed east on Kellogg and went to turn north on Rock.
Watkins had minor injuries. Hall, 70, died at the scene.
