Victim dies after Wichita police respond to south-side QuikTrip for reported shooting
Police are investigating after responding to a report of a shooting victim in a QuikTrip parking lot in south Wichita.
A Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor confirmed a 911 call was placed at around 3:37 p.m. Tuesday from the QuikTrip at Hydraulic and Wassall, but said he could not confirm the extent of the patient’s injuries or where the shooting happened.
Emergency radio traffic indicated a patient with a gunshot wound to the chest was in very critical condition. Paramedics indicated the wound was to the upper abdomen and the patient was unresponsive as they headed to a hospital.
The Wichita Police Department is investigating.
Capt. Wendell Nicholson told reporters at the scene that a man in his 30s was shot elsewhere before being left at the convenience store. He said the man had life-threatening injuries.
Officer Kevin Wheeler said Tuesday night that the victim has died, and that the shooting happened in the 2800 block of South Ida. Wheeler said he had no additional information on the case.
