Wichita man arrested after teen dies in drug-deal shooting
A 22-year-old Wichita man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after a teenager who was shot during a drug deal died, according to the Wichita Police Department
Malcolm Louis Ganther was arrested Thursday at his home in the 300 block of North Edgemoor. Police have also located the Buick that Ganther allegedly drove but are still looking for the shooter who arrived and left in a white Ford Mustang.
The shooting happened at around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Run Apartments in the 1100 block of South Webb, near Harry.
A person who called 911 said she heard a shot, went outside and found someone shot lying in the parking lot, according to scanner traffic at the time. She found 17-year-old Marcus Sain of Wichita who later died at the hospital.
Sain and an 18-year-old man arranged to meet Ganther and one other person in the parking lot for a drug deal, officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. Ganther, in the Buick, and the driver of the Ford Mustang arrived around the same time.
Davidson said the victims were sitting inside the Buick with Ganther when a “ disturbance ensued, and the suspect seated in the Mustang exited the car and fired multiple shots at Sain and the 18-year-old, striking them and causing their injuries.”
“Ganther then fled in the Buick, and the second suspect fled in the Mustang.”
The 18-year-old arrived at the hospital shortly after he was shot. He was treated and released.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
