Teen arrested after police share images of burglar inside home while family slept

After posting images on social media of a person wandering around a family’s home while they were asleep, Wichita police have arrested a teenage boy.

The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and theft on Wednesday based on a tip police received after posting the images earlier that day. The images showed a burglar inside the home in the 1200 block of North Harding, near 13th and Oliver, at around 2:45 a.m. on May 8.

A 32-year-old woman and her daughters, ages 15 and 2, live in the home.

The 15-year-old woke up to the burglar inside the home, which spooked him and he ran away, officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.

“The mother provided investigators with surveillance video from inside the home, which showed the 14-year-old roaming the residence for several minutes before leaving,” Davidson said. “The investigation revealed that the 14-year-old entered the residence through an unlocked door and stole a tool.”
