Teen steals Cheney school bus, leads officers on chase across counties, sheriff says

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing a school bus from Cheney and leading officers on a pursuit a few counties away, Ford County sheriff Bill Carr said in a news release.

The teenager, who was a “runaway out of another county,” was arrested on suspicion of fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on an officer, criminal damage, driving without a license, possession of stolen property and several traffic violations, Carr said.

The stolen bus was reported to Ford County deputies at around 7:30 a.m. The bus was spotted being driven west on Highway 54.

“Deputies attempted to stop the bus but the driver evaded them for several miles, leading them on and off of county roads and Highway 54 before surrendering at the intersection of Highway 54 and Highway 94 near Kingsdown,” Carr said.
