Single gunshot hits both people involved in domestic argument

A 21-year-old Wichita man remains hospitalized after an argument with his girlfriend Thursday morning led to a shot being fired that hit both of them, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tim Myers said.

First responders were called about the shooting at 1:47 a.m. to a home in the 2400 block of South Bedford, near Pawnee and Greenwich. The man and his 20-year-old girlfriend, who both live at the home, had already driven themselves to Wesley Medical Center, Myers said in an email.

The man remained in the hospital as of Thursday afternoon, Myers said. The woman has been released.

The two got into an argument that spilled out of the house and onto the driveway when a shot was fired. It went through his chest and into her arm, Myers said.

“Neither party sustained serious injuries,” Myers said. “It is still unclear at this time how the gun actually fired.”
