Kansas woman who didn’t pay taxes on cars bought in Oklahoma convicted of misdemeanors
A Kansas woman has been ordered to pay restitution after she was found guilty of failing to pay taxes on two vehicles she bought in Oklahoma.
Katie E. Miorandi, 32, of Parsons, pleaded no contest Tuesday in Labette County District Court to two misdemeanor violations of the Compensating Use Tax Act. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced the conviction Wednesday in a news release.
Miorandi agreed in a plea deal to pay nearly $3,500 in restitution to the Kansas Department of Revenue, as well as a fine and court costs. She was also sentenced to 12 months of probation with an underlying 30 days in jail, Schmidt said.
Investigators had determined that Miorandi bought two vehicles in Oklahoma in April 2016 and August 2018. She “willfully underpaid taxes” on the cars, Schmidt said.
