Wichita police arrest man on murder charge in accident that killed Don Hall

Police have arrested 43-year-old Ray Watkins of Wichita on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with a Wednesday morning crash that killed longtime radio disc jockey Don Hall, said Officer Charley Davidson of the Wichita Police Department.

Alcohol and drugs are believed to be a factor in the accident, he said.

Davidson said in a release that officers responded to the accident at 4:20 a.m., where they found Hall in critical condition, pinned in his vehicle. He had to be removed from the car by the Wichita Fire Department and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hall was traveling east on Kellogg in his 2012 Lincoln and exited onto Kellogg Drive to turn north on Rock Road, he said. Watkins, traveling south on Rock Road in a 2000 Lincoln, appears to have run an red light and collided with Hall’s vehicle as he was turning, police said. Watkins had minor injuries and was arrested on the scene, police said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Davidson said, and the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
