Wichita man arrested in Monday shooting death of teen

A 32-year-old Wichita man was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of a teen earlier this week, police said Thursday.

Joshua Allen Johnson was arrested at his home on suspicion of first-degree murder in the killing of 18-year-old Aubrey Resendez of Wichita, police said.

In a news release, Officer Charley Davidson said that at around 12:40 a.m. on Monday police responded to a shooting call at the Kwik Shop in the 600 block of South West Street, near Kellogg and West. When they arrived, police found a 2014 Dodge Avenger with the back window shot out. Inside the vehicle were two men — Resendez’s 18-year-old boyfriend, who was driving, and her 27-year-old brother - and Resendez, who had been shot.

Resendez was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Davidson said the shooting occurred in the 4200 block of West Pawnee, near I-235 and Southwest Boulevard, after a disturbance with the occupants in the Avenger and Johnson, who was in a 2006 Silver Dodge Ram that recently reported stolen from Reno County.

“During the disturbance, Johnson fired multiple shots at the Avenger, striking the vehicle and striking Resendez,” Davidson said.

Police are still looking for the stolen truck.

Anyone with information about the case can call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
