Wichita man arrested after taking woman with gunshot wound to hospital

A 30-year-old Wichita man was arrested Wednesday morning after he brought a woman to Wesley Medical Center with a wound caused by a bullet grazing her head, police said.

Denoveous Untrae Adams was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon. Adams has previous convictions for aggravated robbery and robbery, police said.

At around 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called about a drive-by shooting in the 1400 block of North Poplar, near 17th Street. An off-duty Wichita police sergeant working at Wesley Medical Center advised police about a shooting victim arriving at the hospital around the same time.

The 31-year-old woman had been grazed by a bullet on the top of her head, officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.

“She had been brought to the hospital by Adams in a Jeep Liberty,” Davidson said. “Upon Adams seeing the WPD Sergeant, he grabbed a handgun from the vehicle and fled on foot. He was arrested in the area by arriving officers. Officers also recovered the gun.”

Officers found multiple shell casings in the 1400 and 1600 blocks of North Poplar.

“A lack of all cooperation in this investigation has affected investigators from learning all the details of this case,” Davidson said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
