10-year-old arrested after stabbing man with pencil near Valley Center, official says

A 10-year-old boy was arrested Monday after stabbing an employee of a youth facility several times with a pencil, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tim Myers said.

At around 12:30 p.m., officers were called about an aggravated battery at the Youth Horizons Kinloch Price Boys Ranch, northeast of Valley Center. The boy, who was a resident at the facility for troubled youth, became upset and used a pencil to stab a 46-year-old man in the forearm several times, Myers said.

The man had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital, Myers said. The boy was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
