Two people shot in separate overnight incidents in south Wichita, police say

Two men were treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in separate overnight incidents in south Wichita, police said.

The first occurred at around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday when Wichita officers were called to a hospital about a walk-in patient who had been shot. The 44-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle traveling near Ross Parkway and Jewett when he was shot in the body. The shooter fired multiple shots at the vehicle, officer Charley Davidson said in a news release.

The victim has since been released from the hospital. A 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle also had a minor injury, the release said.

The other occurred at around midnight in the 700 block of South Greenwood, near Pawnee and Hydraulic.

Officers found a 34-year-old man who had been shot in his lower body. He was taken to a hospital.

“The investigation revealed that a possible known male suspect came to the residence, pounded on the door, and wanted to be let in,” police said. “The victim refused to open the door, and the suspect fired one shot through the door, striking the victim.”

Police don’t believe either incident was random.

Anyone with information on the incidents can call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
