Original March 17:
A Wichita police officer fired three shots at a woman driving off in a stolen car after she hit another officer with the car Monday night, police said.
“The female suspect fled the scene in the stolen car,” Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. “No one was injured in this event.”
Davidson said officers were called at around 8:40 p.m. on Monday about a stolen vehicle at a home in the 1200 block of West Second Street, near Second and Seneca. A woman was backing the stolen car into the driveway and an 18-year-old man was yelling from the front of the home when officers arrived.
One officer approached the man and another officer went toward the woman in the car.
“The female put the car in drive, drove into the officer, and struck him with the vehicle while fleeing,” the release says. “The officer ended up on the hood of the car before sliding off. The second WPD officer lost sight of the first officer believing he was being injured and drug by the vehicle, and fired three shots.”
The man was arrested for obstructing and on outstanding warrants.
Officers later found the stolen car abandoned at a business in the 9400 block of East Cooperate Hills.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is helping to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about the incident can call Wichita detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
