Drugs suspected in nighttime shooting in south Wichita, police say

The non-fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in south Wichita Friday night is believed to be drug-related, Wichita police officer Charley Davidson said on Saturday.

A victim had gotten into a fight with three people after stopping in a Chevy Impala on Seneca, Davidson said in a news release. Several shots were fired and one hit the victim.

“The suspects then went through the victim’s vehicle before fleeing,” the release says.

Police were called at around 7:45 p.m. and found the victim’s car in a southbound lane on Seneca at Jewell, near Seneca and May. The victim was on the side of the road. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injures.

“Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances of what occurred,” the release says. “A lack of cooperation has affected investigators from learning all the details of this case. This was not a random incident, and illegal drugs are believed to be a factor.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
