Parolee arrested in connection to Sunday shooting, Wichita police say
A 21-year-old Wichita man on parole was arrested Thursday in connection to the shooting of a 53-year-old man earlier in the week, police said.
Deamonte Lytell Reese was arrested without incident in the 8300 block of East Kellogg in connection to a Sunday morning shooting at a home in the 2900 block of East Timberlane. Reese had been involved in a disturbance with the victim and a 26-year-old man, police said. He left the home with his girlfriend but returned shortly after and the disturbance continued, according to officer Charley Davidson.
“During this disturbance, Reese pulled out a handgun and fired one shot that struck the 53-year-old male,” Davidson said in a news release. “He then fled the scene with his girlfriend in a green Kia Sportage.”
The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Reese was arrested for suspicion of aggravated battery and on a parole violation through the Kansas Department of Corrections. Reese was on parole for a 2018 criminal possession of a firearm conviction in Sedgwick County.
Reese was released from prison in July 2019 and absconded on March 4, according to the KDOC.
