Robber shot at Kwik Shop employee when he couldn’t open more registers, police say

Wichita police say a robber with a gun fired a shot at a local Kwik Shop employee who couldn’t get more cash registers open during a late-night holdup Sunday.

A 25-year-old employee working at the gas station at 21st and Oliver told police that two robbers came into the store at about 11:20 p.m. One pointed a handgun at the employee and demanded money. The employee handed over cash but couldn’t open additional registers, Wichita police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said during a Monday morning news briefing.

The robber with the gun fired one shot in the employee’s direction, Davidson said. Both robbers ran away from the store afterward.

Police say the employee described the robbers as males in their teens. One had a silver handgun.

The employee wasn’t hit or hurt during the robbery or the gunfire.

Police are asking members of the public who may have information about the robbery to call detectives at 316-268-4407, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282. Crime Stoppers tips, which are anonymous, may be eligible for a cash reward if they lead to an arrest.

“If you have any additional information on this case — happened to be in that area, seen anything, heard anything — please give us a call,” Davidson said.
