Police looking for man, 21, who allegedly shot girlfriend’s uncle during family fight
Wichita police are looking for a 21-year-old man who allegedly shot his girlfriend’s uncle during a family fight on Sunday morning.
Police also want to talk to the girlfriend, Officer Charley Davidson said during a Monday morning news briefing. The couple fled the shooting scene in a green Kia Sportage after the gunfire, he said.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the couple’s whereabouts is asked to call police detectives at 316-268-4407, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282. Police did not release their names Monday morning.
Davidson said the shooting happened after the family fought at a home in the 2900 block of East Timberlane, near Pawnee and Hillside, on Sunday morning. The 53-year-old uncle, the 21-year-old man and the uncle’s 26-year-old nephew argued and, at some point before the shooting, the 21-year-old man and his girlfriend, 22, left the home.
When the couple returned to the address later, the fighting started again. During the second round of arguing, the 21-year-old man pulled out a handgun and fired at the uncle, striking him, Davidson said. The shooting was reported at about 11:50 a.m. on Sunday.
Afterward, the 21-year-old and his girlfriend drove off. Police were still looking for them Monday morning.
Davidson didn’t say what the fight was about. The uncle was taken to a Wichita hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive, Davidson said.
