Postal inspector seizes meth and possible drug money from mail in Wichita and Augusta
A U.S. Postal Service inspector has seized methamphetamine, THC oil, THC wax and possible drug money from packages mailed to Wichita and Augusta, court documents show.
Both packages were opened and searched after warrants were obtained from a federal judge last month. The USPS search warrant applications filed in U.S. District Court show Wichita Police Department dogs indicated the packages had an odor of controlled substances.
The first package was mailed from an apartment in Raleigh, North Carolina, to a post office box in Augusta. The postal inspector seized $2,410 that was inside the 6-ounce parcel.
The second package was mailed from Flemington, New Jersey, to a home in the 10300 block of West Rita Street in Wichita. Investigators seized the drugs found inside the 2-pound, 12-ounce parcel: 28 grams of meth, 301 grams of THC oil cartridges and 110.1 grams of THC wax.
In the days following the seizure of the drug-filled mail, Wichita police searched a home in the 10300 block of West Rita. Police said officers served the search warrant on the home as part of a narcotics investigation. It is unclear if the investigation stemmed from the seized mail.
The department said in a tweet on Thursday that the community response team arrested one person and seized 6.4 pounds of marijuana, 252 grams of mushrooms, 1 gram of MDMA, scales, packaging, a money counter, three handguns, two rifles and more than $2,800 in cash. Two of the handguns had been reported stolen.
