Few incidents of someone impersonating officer in Burrton, sheriff’s office says

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who may have been stopped by someone impersonating an officer in the last six months to contact the station.

On Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that the “few isolated incidents (happened) around Burrton.”

“We would like to speak with anyone who may have been stopped by someone who may have been posing as a law enforcement officer over the past six months in the Burrton area,” the Sheriff’s Office said in the post. “Some signs that the person was impersonating a law enforcement officer were their uniform, vehicle or how that person interacted with you.”

The Sheriff’s Office said anyone pulled over by someone they suspect is not an officer can drive to a public place before stopping and call 911 to verify. If driving to a public place, the Sheriff’s Office added, “just be smart about it and slow down, so if it is a true law enforcement officer, it doesn’t appear like you’re trying to drive off.”
