Kansas man arrested in connection to 3-year-old’s death after yearlong investigation

A yearlong investigation into the death of a 3-year-old Ulysses boy has led to the arrest of a man who was in a relationship with the boy’s mother, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday.

According to the KBI, 26-year-old Uraquio “Rocky” A. Arredondo of Ulysses was arrested at his home Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse. He was booked into Grant County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond. On Feb. 26, 2019, first responders were called to a Ulysses home about 3-year-old Carlos Valenzuela III being unresponsive.

Valenzuela was taken to Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital and was then transferred to a Denver hospital, where he died on Feb. 27.
