He went to QuikTrip to sell a rifle and was robbed instead, Wichita police say

Two men were robbed of guns when they met up to sell a firearm Thursday night at a Wichita QuikTrip, police say.

Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said a 23-year-old man arranged to sell a rifle with an online buyer. The man brought a 25-year-old man with him. Just before 9 p.m. at the QuikTrip at Central and Oliver, the men hopped in the back of a gray SUV. Two men were in the front seat, police said.

The two men in the front seat pulled out guns and robbed the other men of their guns and the rifle, Davidson said. An assault-style rifle, .40 caliber and .45 caliber handguns were taken, according to a police report. The estimated value was $1,654.

Davidson offered these suggestions for anyone meeting to sell property with someone from an online site:

  • Do research on the other party
  • Set a safe meeting place
  • Meet during the daytime
  • Carry a phone and tell someone of the location
  • Bring someone else with you
  • Do the transaction outside
  • Take a photo of the person or their license before discussing the sale
