Subject waiting to be interviewed by Kansas cops tried to kill himself in bathroom

A male subject who was waiting in a Kansas sheriff’s office to be interviewed as part of a criminal investigation tried to kill himself in the bathroom, law enforcement officials said.

The suicide attempt happened sometime before the subject was found unconscious in the bathroom at around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. He was taken to Girard Medical Center, where he was listed as in stable condition.

Sheriff Danny Smith said the subject, who was not identified, was in the sheriff’s office lobby waiting to be interviewed by a deputy in connection to an ongoing criminal investigation. He was supposed to be the second of two people to be interviewed.

When it was the subject’s turn to be interviewed, the deputy couldn’t find him in the lobby. Video footage was reviewed, showing the subject had been in the bathroom for about 30 minutes.

The man had self-inflicted cuts to his neck, and a single razor blade was found in the bathroom, the sheriff said. Paramedics took the subject to the hospital.
