15-year-old arrested at Heights High School after tip turns up gun

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday at Heights High after a tip led staff to find a handgun.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and having a gun on school grounds. The tip was made to school staff at around 8:30 a.m., according to the Wichita Police Department.

“The USD 259 security personnel and SRO (school resource officer) followed up on the tip, which led to the arrest,” Wichita police said in a news release. “There were no threats made to any students, no threats of violence on school grounds and no disruptions to the school. Furthermore, no one was injured.”
