Tinder meetup ends with a rape arrest, Wichita police say
A 23-year-old Wichita man has been arrested after he allegedly strangled and sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman he met on the dating application Tinder.
Joe Dustin Tamez was arrested Monday morning in the 500 block of South Tyler, near Maple. Police were called at around 11:25 p.m. Sunday to the 500 block of South Robin, which is about a quarter-mile from where Tamez was arrested. The victim, police said, met the suspect on Tinder and agreed to meet at his home. The victim ran from the home to a residence on Robin Road after being sexually assaulted, police said. She had minor injuries.
Tamez was jailed on suspicion of rape, aggravated battery, giving alcohol to a minor and criminal threat.
The Wichita Police Department offered advice for people using a dating app:
• Avoid sharing a lot of personal information
• Arrange for your own transportation to a date
• Meet in a public place for a first date
• Share your location with family or a friend and have them check in.
